Janice Ayala Joins Dowa Metals & Mining America, Inc. as Chief Compliance Officer
BURLINGTON, NJ – Dowa Metals & Mining America, Inc. (DMMA) recently welcomed Janice Ayala as its Chief Compliance Officer. Following her 27-year tenure at the Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”), most recently as Director of the Joint Task Force for Investigations, Ayala joins DMMA with an extensive background in compliance and criminal investigations.
During her federal career, and since her retirement, she has worked in audit, compliance and self-inspection, mandated by various federal, state and international laws and regulations. Ayala has worked with regulators, industry partners, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders, and once served as a Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Officer for a Money Services Business. During her time as Director of Compliance for an Emergency Influx site, Ayala delivered policy on the protection and security of unaccompanied minors under care within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Additionally, she has conducted audits and reviews of Use of Force Investigations for the state of Washington.
Former Director Ayala brings unique expertise to DMMA, having overseen interdepartmental operations and held several other managerial positions in DHS, including Assistant Director (AD) Domestic Operations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) where she oversaw the investigative activity of all Special Agent in Charge (SAC) offices in the nation. As the AD for Investigative Programs she oversaw all programmatic areas such as Financial, Narcotics, Public Safety, Smuggling, Trafficking, etc. She also served as the SAC in San Antonio, where she was responsible for one of the largest HSI operations that spanned 58 counties, 500 miles of international border, two Federal Judicial Districts, three Customs and Border Protection sectors and major ports of entry into the United States.

Previously in her career, Ayala served in diverse leadership positions in DHS, including Deputy SAC, Associate SAC and Assistant SAC in Laredo, Texas. Additionally, she acted as Resident Agent in Charge and the Acting Assistant Regional SAC, Internal Affairs for the former U.S. Customs Service in El Paso, Texas.
